Throughout its more than 300-year history, St. Petersburg State University has accumulated numerous traditions. One of the most recent is the launching of the "Paper Boats of Hope". The tradition began in 2011, when students first wrote their wishes on paper boats and set them afloat on the Neva River. The idea was proposed by Semyon Altov, a satirical writer and Honoured Artist of Russia.

Since then, each new generation of SPbU students has continued the tradition after the matriculation ceremony, sending paper boats bearing their dreams across the waters of the Neva. As the experience of many university alumni shows, the wishes written on them are destined to come true.

За почти три века истории в Университете сложилось немало традиций. Запуск корабликов надежды — одна из самых молодых: впервые свои заветные желания студенты доверили бумажным корабликам и спустили их на воду в 2011 году. Идею предложил писатель-сатирик, заслуженный деятель искусств России Семен Альтов.

С тех пор ежегодно первокурсники СПбГУ после Церемонии посвящения в студенты отправляют кораблики со своими мечтами в плавание по невским волнам. Написанные на них желания, как подтверждает опыт многих универсантов, непременно исполняются.
